Fairfield Welcomes Pups, Horses on Beaches

Fairfield Gallery Life Style

Summer may be over, but for dog and horse owners in Fairfield, beach season is just beginning. From Oct. 1 through March 31, dogs and horses are officially welcomed back on the town’s beaches.

According to the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department rules, dogs must remain on a leash on most public beaches during this time. The only exception is Jennings Beach, where dogs may go off-leash as long as they remain under their owner’s control. The town’s seasonal policy is designed to balance recreation and responsibility, allowing residents and their pets to enjoy the outdoors while keeping Fairfield’s beaches safe and clean for everyone.

During the warmer months, dogs are not permitted on the beaches to protect swimmers, wildlife and public spaces. But when the off season arrives, the sand opens up for furry visitors to run, explore, and enjoy the cool coastal air.

There are a few important rules to keep in mind. Dogs are not allowed on boardwalks, pavilions or playgrounds at any time, and owners must always clean up after their pets. In other recreational areas, such as open space parks, dogs should be leashed or kept under control, especially within 100 feet of parking lots or picnic areas.
