Donate to Fairfield’s Environmental Projects Through Online Portal

Residents can support local environmental efforts through a publicly accessible Conservation Donation Fund available on the town’s website

The fund is active around the clock, allowing residents to contribute to conservation projects of their choosing.

Conservation Director Timothy Bishop said efforts to promote the fund increased in January after a resident hand-delivered a donation earlier this year.

“The donation fund has existed for many years, but was not well known to the public,” Bishop said.

For transparency, use of the money raised through the fund will be approved by the Conservation Commission during public meetings, said Bishop.

Projects include invasive plant removal, native plantings, pollinator and meadow projects, and educational programs at the Fairfield Environmental Education & Field Station, a 65-acre site for environmental learning and recreation.

Bishop said the fund will support both large- and small-scale efforts that benefit local ecosystems and provide recreational opportunities.

“These efforts, which require a significant amount of time, effort, and money, benefit the macro and micro ecosystems in Fairfield, all while providing the residents/users amazing places for recreation and other forms of natural enjoyment,” he said.

First Selectperson Christine Vitale emphasized the importance of community involvement. “This new Conservation Fund gives residents a way to be part of their important work,” Vitale said. “This is an opportunity for our community to come together and contribute to stewardship of our beautiful open spaces and parks.”
