A delegation of Ukrainian officials from Donetsk Oblast will visit Fairfield on Thursday, Sept. 10, as part of the town’s ongoing sister-city relationship with Kostiantynivka, coordinated by Ukraine Aid International.
First Selectperson Christine Vitale will join the delegation for a luncheon and discussion at noon at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road. The Ukrainian officials will thank Fairfield for its support of Ukraine and Donetsk Oblast and provide an update on the situation in Ukraine, including conditions facing frontline communities and their most pressing challenges and needs.
Fairfield established its sister-city relationship with Kostiantynivka in 2023 in recognition of the strong ties between the Fairfield community and the people of Ukraine. Donetsk Oblast has served as Fairfield’s sister region through that relationship. Other partnerships between Connecticut and Ukrainian communities include Darien, which recently established a sister-city partnership with Sloviansk and Easton’s sister-city relationship with Sviatohirsk.
Kostiantynivka is currently on Ukraine’s front line and is among the most significant battlegrounds in the war, according to Ukraine Aid International.
Joining Vitale at the luncheon will be Selectperson Brenda Kupchick; state Rep. Jenn Leeper; Yuriy Vynokurov, first deputy head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration; Sergii Kaliian, head of the Bakhmut District Administration; Oleksii Vorobiov, head of the Siversk City Administration; and members of Ukraine Aid International.
The luncheon is not open to the public. Members of the media are invited to attend, hear directly from the Ukrainian officials and participate in opportunities for photographs and interviews.
